The potential of environmental taxation

Environmental policy applies different approaches in order to protect the environment and to foster a sustainable transition and the economic one is more and more significance. Among different economic instruments environmental taxation can play a crucial role, because of its regulatory dimension that is able to influence people’s behavior. On the one hand environmental taxes have many important advantages, such as economic efficiency, the ability to raise public revenue that can be reused, transparency but on the other hand they can be regressive and contrary to the principle of the ability to pay. Climate change and the EU strategy: the European Green Deal

Climate change is one of the biggest challenges of our time. To solve this problem environmental policies are on the top of international, European and national agenda. In 2019, environmental issues became part of the European Commission’s priorities for 2019-2024: Mrs Ursula Von Der Leyen launched the so-called “European Green Deal” to implement the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda. This is an ambitious package of measures for a green and inclusive transition whose main goal is to improve the well-being of people. Making Europe the first climate-neutral continent by 2050 and protecting our natural habitat will be good for people, planet and economy.
